Psalms 9: Douay-Rheims and Septuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
Douay-RheimsSeptuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
Unto the end, for the hidden things of the Son. A psalm for David.Εἰς τὸ τέλος, ὑπὲρ τῶν κρυφίων τοῦ υἱοῦ, ψαλμὸς τῷ Δαυίδ.
I will give praise to thee, O Lord, with my whole heart: I will relate all thy wonders.Ἐξομολογήσομαι σοι Κύριε ἐν ὅλῃ καρδίᾳ μου, διηγήσομαι πάντα τὰ θαυμάσιά σου.
I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing to thy name, O thou most high.Εὐφρανθήσομαι καὶ ἀγαλλιάσομαι ἐν σοὶ, ψαλῶ τῷ ὀνόματί σου ὕψιστε.
When my enemy shall be turned back: they shall be weakened and perish before thy face.Ἐν τῷ ἀποστραφῆναι τὸν ἐχθρόν μου εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω, ἀσθενήσουσι καὶ ἀπολοῦνται ἀπὸ προσώπου σου.
For thou hast maintained my judgment and my cause: thou hast sat on the throne, who judgest justice.Ὅτι ἐποίησας τὴν κρίσιν μου καὶ τὴν δίκην μου, ἐκάθισας ἐπὶ θρόνου ὁ κρίνων δικαιοσύνην.
Thou hast rebuked the Gentiles, and the wicked one hath perished: thou hast blotted out their name for ever and ever.Ἐπετίμησας ἔθνεσι, καὶ ἀπώλετο ὁ ἀσεβὴς· τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῶν ἐξήλειψας εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα, καὶ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ αἰῶνος.
The swords of the enemy have failed unto the end: and their cities thou hast destroyed. Their memory hath perished with a noise.Τοῦ ἐχθροῦ ἐξέλιπον αἱ ῥομφαῖαι εἰς τέλος, καὶ πόλεις καθεῖλες· ἀπώλετο τὸ μνημόσυνον αὐτῶν μετʼ ἤχου,
But the Lord remaineth for ever. He hath prepared his throne in judgment:καὶ ὁ Κύριος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα μένει· ἡτοίμασεν ἐν κρίσει τὸν θρόνον αὐτοῦ,
And he shall judge the world in equity, he shall judge the people in justice.καὶ αὐτὸς κρινεῖ τὴν οἰκουμένην ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ, κρινεῖ λαοὺς ἐν εὐθύτητι.
And the Lord is become a refuge for the poor: a helper in due time in tribulation.Καὶ ἐγένετο Κύριος καταφυγὴ τῷ πένητι, βοηθὸς ἐν εὐκαιρίαις, ἐν θλίψει.
And let them trust in thee who know thy name: for thou hast not forsaken them that seek thee, O Lord.Καὶ ἐλπισάτωσαν ἐπὶ σὲ οἱ γινώσκοντες τὸ ὄνομά σου, ὅτι οὐκ ἐγκατέλιπες τοὺς ἐκζητοῦντάς σε Κύριε.
Sing ye to the Lord, who dwelleth in Sion: declare his ways among the Gentiles:Ψάλατε τῷ Κυρίῳ τῷ κατοικοῦντι ἐν Σιὼν, ἀναγγείλατε ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα αὐτοῦ.
For requiring their blood he hath remembered the: he hath not forgotten the cry of the poor.Ὅτι ἐκζητῶν τὰ αἵματα αὐτῶν ἐμνήσθη, οὐκ ἐπελάθετο τῆς δεήσεως τῶν πενήτων.
Have mercy on me, O Lord: see my humiliation which I suffer from my enemies.Ἐλέησόν με Κύριε, ἴδε τὴν ταπείνωσίν μου ἐκ τῶν ἐχθρῶν μου, ὁ ὑψῶν με ἐκ τῶν πυλῶν τοῦ θανάτου·
Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death, that I may declare all thy praises in the gates of the daughter of Sion.Ὅπως ἂν ἐξαγγείλω πάσας τὰς αἰνέσεις σου ἐν ταῖς πύλαις τῆς θυγατρὸς Σιών· ἀγαλλιάσομαι ἐπὶ τῷ σωτηρίῳ σου.
I will rejoice in thy salvation: the Gentiles have stuck fast in the destruction which they have prepared. Their foot hath been taken in the very snare which they hid.Ἐνεπάγησαν ἔθνη ἐν διαφθορᾷ ᾗ ἐποίησαν· ἐν παγίδι ταύτῃ ᾗ ἔκρυψαν συνελήφθη ὁ ποὺς αὐτῶν.
The Lord shall be known when he executeth judgments: the sinner hath been caught in the works of his own hands.Γινώσκεται Κύριος κρίματα ποιῶν, ἐν τοῖς ἔργοις τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ συνελήφθη ὁ ἁμαρτωλός· ᾠδὴ διαψάλματος.
The wicked shall be turned into hell, all the nations that forget God.Ἀποστραφήτωσαν οἱ ἁμαρτωλοὶ εἰς τὸν ᾅδην, πάντα τὰ ἔθνη τὰ ἐπιλανθανόμενα τοῦ Θεοῦ.
For the poor man shall not be forgotten to the end: the patience of the poor shall not perish for ever.Ὅτι οὐκ εἰς τέλος ἐπιλησθήσεται ὁ πτωχὸς, ἡ ὑπομονὴ τῶν πενήτων οὐκ ἀπολεῖται εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.
Arise, O Lord, let not man be strengthened: let the Gentiles be judged in thy sight.Ἀνάστηθι Κύριε, μὴ κραταιούσθω ἄνθρωπος, κριθήτωσαν ἔθνη ἐνώπιόν σου.
Appoint, O Lord, a lawgiver over them: that the Gentiles may know themselves to be but men.Κατάστησον, Κύριε, νομοθέτην ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς, γνώτωσαν ἔθνη ὅτι ἀνθρωποί εἰσι· διάψαλμα.
Why, O Lord, hast thou retired afar off? why dost thou slight us in our wants, in the time of trouble?Ἱνατί, Κύριε, ἀφέστηκας μακρόθεν, ὑπερορᾷς ἐν εὐκαιρίαις, ἐν θλίψει;
Whilst the wicked man is proud, the poor is set on fire: they are caught in the counsels which they devise.Ἐν τῷ ὑπερηφανεύεσθαι τὸν ἀσεβῆ, ἐμπυρίζεται ὁ πτωχὸς, συλλαμβάνονται ἐν διαβουλίοις οἷς διαλογίζονται.
For the sinner is praised in the desires of his soul: and the unjust man is blessed.Ὅτι ἐπαινεῖται ὁ ἁμαρτωλὸς ἐν ταῖς ἐπιθυμίαις τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ὁ ἀδικῶν ἐνευλογεῖται.
The sinner hath provoked the Lord according to the multitude of his wrath he will not seek him:Παρώξυνε τὸν Κύριον ὁ ἁμαρτωλὸς, κατὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῆς ὀργῆς αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐκζητήσει· οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ Θεὸς ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ.
God is not before his eyes: his ways are filthy at all times. Thy judgments are removed from his sight: he shall rule over all his enemies.Βεβηλοῦνται αἱ ὁδοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ· ἀνταναιρεῖται τὰ κρίματά σου ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ, πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτοῦ κατακυριεύσει.
For he hath said in his heart: I shall not be moved from generation to generation, and shall be without evil.Εἶπε γὰρ ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ, οὐ μὴ σαλευθῶ ἀπὸ γενεᾶς εἰς γενεὰν ἄνευ κακοῦ.
His mouth is full of cursing, and of bitterness, and of deceit: under his tongue are labour and sorrow.Οὗ ἀρᾶς τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ γέμει καὶ πικρίας καὶ δόλου, ὑπὸ τὴν γλῶσσαν αὐτοῦ κόπος καὶ πόνος.
He sitteth in ambush with the rich in private places, that he may kill the innocent.Ἐγκάθηται ἔνεδρα μετὰ πλουσίων ἐν ἀποκρύφοις, τοῦ ἀποκτεῖναι ἀθῶον· οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν πένητα ἀποβλέπουσιν.
His eyes are upon the poor man: He lieth in wait in secret like a lion in his den. He lieth in ambush that he may catch the poor man: to catch the poor, whilst he draweth him to him.Ἐνεδρεύει ἐν ἀποκρύφῳ ὡς λέων ἐν τῇ μάνδρᾳ αὐτοῦ· ἐνεδρεύει τοῦ ἁρπάσαι πτωχὸν, ἁρπάσαι πτωχὸν ἐν τῷ ἑλκύσαι αὐτόν· ἐν τῇ παγίδι αὐτοῦ
In his net he will bring him down, he will crouch and fall, when he shall have power over the poor.ταπεινώσει αὐτὸν, κύψει καὶ πεσεῖται ἐν τῷ αὐτὸν κατακυριεῦσαι τῶν πενήτων.
For he hath said in his heart: God hath forgotten, he hath turned away his face not to see to the end.Εἶπε γὰρ ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ, ἐπιλέλησται ὁ Θεὸς, ἀπέστρεψε τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ τοῦ μὴ βλέπειν εἰς τέλος.
Arise, O Lord God, let thy hand be exalted: forget not the poor.Ἀνάστηθι Κύριε ὁ Θεὸς, ὑψωθήτω ἡ χείρ σου, μὴ ἐπιλάθῃ τῶν πενήτων.
Wherefore hath the wicked provoked God? for he hath said in his heart: He will not require it.Ἕνεκεν τίνος παρώξυνεν ὁ ἀσεβὴς τὸν Θεόν; εἶπε γὰρ ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ, οὐ ζητήσει.
Thou seest it, for thou considerest labour and sorrow: that thou mayst deliver them into thy hands. To thee is the poor man left: thou wilt be a helper to the orphan.Βλέπεις, ὅτι σὺ πόνον καὶ θυμὸν κατανοεῖς, τοῦ παραδοῦναι αὐτοὺς εἰς χεῖράς σου· σοὶ ἐγκαταλέλειπται ὁ πτωχὸς, ὀρφανῷ σὺ ἦσθα βοηθός.
Break thou the arm of the sinner and of the malignant: his sin shall be sought, and shall not be found.Σύντριψον τὸν βραχίονα τοῦ ἁμαρτωλοῦ καὶ πονηροῦ, ζητηθήσεται ἡ ἁμαρτία αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐ μὴ εὑρεθῇ.
The Lord shall reign to eternity, yea, for ever and ever: ye Gentiles shall perish from his land.Βασιλεύσει Κύριος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα, καὶ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ αἰῶνος, ἀπολεῖσθε ἔθνη ἐκ τῆς γῆς αὐτοῦ.
The Lord hath heard the desire of the poor: thy ear hath heard the preparation of their heart.Τὴν ἐπιθυμίαν τῶν πενήτων εἰσήκουσε Κύριος, τὴν ἑτοιμασίαν τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν προσέσχε τὸ οὖς σου·
To judge for the fatherless and for the humble, that man may no more presume to magnify himself upon earth.Κρῖναι ὀρφανῷ καὶ ταπεινῷ, ἵνα μὴ προσθῇ ἔτι μεγαλαυχεῖν ἄνθρωπος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
