Psalms 73: Douay-Rheims and Septuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
Douay-RheimsSeptuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
Understanding for Asaph. O God, why hast thou cast us off unto the end: why is thy wrath enkindled against the sheep of thy pasture?Συνέσεως τῷ Ἀσάφ. Ἱνατί ἀπόσω ὁ Θεὸς εἰς τέλος; ὠργίσθη ὁ θυμός σου ἐπὶ πρόβατα νομῆς σου;
Remember thy congregation, which thou hast possessed from the beginning. The sceptre of thy inheritance which thou hast redeemed: mount Sion in which thou hast dwelt.Μνήσθητι τῆς συναγωγῆς σου ἧς ἐκτήσω ἀπʼ ἀρχῆς· ἐλυτρώσω ῥάβδον κληρονομίας σου· ὄρος Σιὼν τοῦτο ὃ κατεσκήνωσας ἐν αὐτῷ.
Lift up thy hands against their pride unto the end; see what things the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.Ἔπαρον τὰς χεῖράς σου ἐπὶ τὰς ὑπερηφανίας αὐτῶν εἰς τέλος· ὅσα ἐπονηρεύσατο ὁ ἐχθρὸς ἐν τοῖς ἁγίοις σου.
And they that hate thee have made their boasts, in the midst of thy solemnity. They have set up their ensigns for signs,Καὶ ἐνεκαυχήσαντο οἱ μισοῦντές σε ἐν μέσῳ τῆς ἑορτῆς σου·
And they knew not both in the going out and on the highest top. As with axes in a wood of trees,ἔθεντο τὰ σημεῖα αὐτῶν σημεῖα, καὶ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν, ὡς εἰς τὴν εἴσοδον ὑπεράνω· ὡς ἐν δρυμῷ ξύλων ἀξίναις ἐξέκοψαν
They have cut down at once the gates thereof, with axe and hatchet they have brought it down.τὰς θύρας αὐτῆς ἐπιτοαυτὸ, ἐν πελέκει καὶ λαξευτηρίῳ κατέῤῥαξαν αὐτήν.
They have set fire to thy sanctuary: they have defiled the dwelling place of thy name on the earth.Ἐνεπύρισαν ἐν πυρὶ τὸ ἁγιαστήριόν σου εἰς τὴν γῆν, ἐβεβήλωσαν τὸ σκήνωμα τοῦ ὀνόματός σου.
They said in their heart, the whole kindred of them together: Let us abolish all the festival days of God from the land.Εἶπαν ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν, ἡ συγγένεια αὐτῶν ἐπιτοαυτὸ, δεῦτε, καταπαύσωμεν τὰς ἑορτὰς Κυρίου ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς.
Our signs we have not seen, there is now no prophet: and he will know us no more.Τὰ σημεῖα ἡμῶν οὐκ εἴδομεν, οὐκ ἔστιν ἔτι προφήτης, καὶ ἡμᾶς οὐ γνώσεται ἔτι.
How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach: is the adversary to provoke thy name for ever?Ἕως πότε ὁ Θεὸς, ὀνειδιεῖ ὁ ἐχθρὸς, παροξυνεῖ ὁ ὑπεναντίος τὸ ὄνομά σου εἰς τέλος;
Why dost thou turn away thy hand: and thy right hand out of the midst of thy bosom for ever?Ἱνατί ἀποστρέφεις τὴν χεῖρά σου, καὶ τὴν δεξιάν σου ἐκ μέσου τοῦ κόλπου σου εἰς τέλος;
But God is our king before ages: he hath wrought salvation in the midst of the earth.Ὁ δὲ Θεὸς βασιλεὺς ἡμῶν πρὸ αἰῶνος, εἰργάσατο σωτηρίαν ἐν μέσῳ τῆς γῆς.
Thou by thy strength didst make the sea firm: thou didst crush the heads of the dragons in the waters.Σὺ ἐκραταίωσας ἐν τῇ δυνάμει σου τὴν θάλασσαν, σὺ συνέτριψας τὰς κεφαλὰς τῶν δρακόντων ἐπὶ τοῦ ὕδατος. Σὺ συνέτριψας τὰς κεφαλὰς τοῦ δράκοντος,
Thou hast broken the heads of the dragon: thou hast given him to be meat for the people of the Ethiopians.ἔδωκας αὐτὸν βρῶμα λαοῖς τοῖς Αἰθίοψι.
Thou hast broken up the fountains and the torrents: thou hast dried up the Ethan rivers.Σὺ διέῤῥηξας πηγὰς καὶ χειμάῤῥους, σὺ ἐξήρανας ποταμοὺς ἠθάμ.
Thine is the day, and thine is the night: thou hast made the morning light and the sun.Σή ἐστιν ἡ ἡμέρα, καὶ σή ἐστιν ἡ νὺξ, σὺ κατηρτίσω ἥλιον καὶ σελήνην.
Thou hast made all the borders of the earth: the summer and the spring were formed by thee.Σὺ ἐποίησας πάντα τὰ ὅρια τῆς γῆς, θέρος καὶ ἔαρ σὺ ἐποίησας.
Remember this, the enemy hath reproached the Lord: and a foolish people hath provoked thy name.Μνήσθητι ταύτης τῆς κτίσεώς σου· ἐχθρὸς ὠνείδισε τὸν Κύριον, καὶ λαὸς ἄφρων παρώξυνε τὸ ὄνομά σου.
Deliver not up to beasts the souls that confess to thee: and forget not to the end the souls of thy poor.Μὴ παραδῷς τοῖς θηρίοις ψυχὴν ἐξομολογουμένην σοι, τῶν ψυχῶν τῶν πενήτων σου μὴ ἐπιλάθῃ εἰς τέλος.
Have regard to thy covenant: for they that are the obscure of the earth have been filled with dwellings of iniquity.Ἐπίβλεψον εἰς τὴν διαθήκην σου, ὅτι ἐπληρωθήσαν οἱ ἐσκοτωμένοι τῆς γῆς οἴκων ἀνομιῶν.
Let not the humble be turned away with confusion: the poor and needy shall praise thy name.Μὴ ἀποστραφήτω τεταπεινωμένος καὶ κατῃσχυμμένος, πτωχὸς καὶ πένης αἰνέσουσι τὸ ὄνομά σου.
Arise, O God, judge thy own cause: remember thy reproaches with which the foolish man hath reproached thee all the day.Ἀνάστα ὁ Θεὸς, δίκασον τὴν δίκην σου, μνήσθητι τῶν ὀνειδισμῶν σου τῶν ὑπὸ ἄφρονος ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν.
Forget not the voices of thy enemies: the pride of them that hate thee ascendeth continually.Μὴ ἐπιλάθῃ τῆς φωνῆς τῶν ἱκετῶν σου, ἡ ὑπερηφανία τῶν μισούντων σε ἀναβαίη διαπαντὸς πρὸς σέ.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
