About Fides Viva
Christus heri et hodie
Fides Viva is a Catholic portal for every day. It opens with the day the Church celebrates, its feast and its saints, and brings together the readings of the Mass, the complete Bible, the calendar of the saints and their lives told on video and in text, with the rigor of a historian and the beauty of film. It is published in six languages, Spanish, Portuguese, English, Italian, French and Latin, and in all of them the sources are in plain sight.
The name
Fides viva is Latin for living faith. The tradition of the Church distinguishes living faith, the faith that works through charity (Galatians 5:6), from faith without works, which is dead (James 2:26). The name holds the path this project hopes to walk with everyone who visits, knowing the faith in order to live it.
What is published
Today is the front page of each language. It shows the liturgical day with its color, the feast being celebrated, all the saints the Church remembers that day, a work of art for the feast or the Gospel, and news of the Church.
The readings of the Mass for each day can be read in full, with the psalm, its response and the alleluia, and they always lead to the official text of the liturgy.
The Bible is complete, book by book, in a classic Catholic translation for each language, and every chapter can be compared verse by verse with the Latin Vulgate and with the Greek.
The calendar runs through the liturgical year month by month and day by day, with the celebrations of the general calendar of the Church, those proper to each country and the saints of each date.
The lives of the saints are told in episodes, each with the video, the full text, the chapters and the bibliography. On video they are published in the program The Saints of God. In preparation are the Church History series, told in order from the beginning, and Paths to Faith, about those who came to the faith.
For whom
For those who pray every day with the Word and with the saints and want to know them better. For those who study Scripture or history and look for sources. For catechists and teachers who need reliable material. And for those who do not yet believe but want to understand, because knowing comes first, and here the sources speak for themselves, without hurry and without pressure.
How the work is done
With rigor, because every text starts from primary sources and the source always goes with what is published. With fidelity, because the doctrine and tradition of the Church are presented without dilution and without sensationalism. With beauty, because what is sacred deserves image, sound and words worthy of it. With welcome, because it is written for everyone, from the scholar to the grandmother who shares the Gospel of the day with her family, without exclusive jargon. And with transparency, because the method is stated openly, including the use of artificial intelligence, and those who produce it sign their work. The details are in How it is made and in Sources and method.
The motto
Christus heri et hodie, Christ yesterday and today. These are the words the Church traces on the paschal candle at the Easter Vigil (cf. Hebrews 13:8). Yesterday is the history told here; today is the faith that is still alive.
Who makes it
Fides Viva is an independent project that seeks to be faithful to the Church, to its teaching and to its tradition. It is not an official body of the Church and does not speak in its name. Directed by André Capelache. Script and review by Zaíra Sanchez. Corrections, suggestions and proposals arrive through the Contact page.
