Psalms 57: Douay-Rheims and Septuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
Douay-RheimsSeptuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
1Unto the end, destroy not, for David, for an inscription of a title.Εἰς τὸ τέλος, μὴ διαφθείρῃς, τῷ Δαυὶδ εἰς στηλογραφίαν.
2If in very deed you speak justice: judge right things, ye sons of men.Εἰ ἀληθῶς ἄρα δικαιοσύνην λαλεῖτε, εὐθεῖα κρίνετε οἱ υἱοὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων.
3For in your heart you work iniquity: your hands forge injustice in the earth.Καὶ γὰρ ἐν καρδίᾳ ἀνομίας ἐργάζεσθε ἐν τῇ γῇ, ἀδικίαν αἱ χεῖρες ὑμῶν συμπλέκουσιν.
4The wicked are alienated from the womb; they have gone astray from the womb: they have spoken false things.Ἀπηλλοτριώθησαν οἱ ἁμαρτωλοὶ ἀπὸ μήτρας, ἐπλανήθησαν ἀπὸ γαστρὸς, ἐλάλησαν ψευδῆ.
5Their madness is according to the likeness of a serpent: like the deaf asp that stoppeth her ears:Θυμὸς αὐτοῖς κατὰ τὴν ὁμοίωσιν τοῦ ὄφεως, ὡσεὶ ἀσπίδος κωφῆς, καὶ βυούσης τὰ ὦτα αὐτῆς,
6Which will not hear the voice of the charmers; nor of the wizard that charmeth wisely.ἥτις οὐκ εἰσακούσεται φωνὴν ἐπᾳδόντων, φαρμάκου τε φαρμακευομένου παρὰ σοφοῦ.
7God shall break in pieces their teeth in their mouth: the Lord shall break the grinders of the lions.Ὁ Θεὸς συνέτριψε τοὺς ὀδόντας αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτῶν, τὰς μύλας τῶν λεόντων συνέθλασεν ὁ Κύριος.
8They shall come to nothing, like water running down; he hath bent his bow till they be weakened.Ἐξουδενωθήσονται ὡς ὕδωρ διαπορευόμενον, ἐντενεῖ τὸ τόξον αὐτοῦ ἕως οὗ ἀσθενήσουσιν.
9Like wax that melteth they shall be taken away: fire hath fallen on them, and they shall not see the sun.Ὡσεὶ κηρὸς ὁ τακεῖς ἀνταναιρεθήσονται, ἔπεσε πῦρ, καὶ οὐκ εἶδον τὸν ἥλιον.
10Before your thorns could know the brier; he swalloweth them up, as alive, in his wrath.Πρὸ τοῦ συνιέναι τὰς ἀκάνθας ὑμῶν τὴν ῥάμνον, ὡσεὶ ζῶντας ὡσεὶ ἐν ὀργῇ καταπίεται ὑμᾶς.
11The just shall rejoice when he shall see the revenge: he shall wash his hands in the blood of the sinner.Εὐφρανθήσεται δίκαιος, ὅταν ἴδῃ ἐκδίκησιν ἀσεβῶν, τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ νίψεται ἐν τῷ αἵματι τοῦ ἁμαρτωλοῦ.
12And man shall say: If indeed there be fruit to the just: there is indeed a God that judgeth them on the earth.Καὶ ἐρεῖ ἄνθρωπος, εἰ ἄρα ἐστὶ καρπὸς τῷ δικαίῳ, ἄρα ἐστὶν ὁ Θεὸς κρίνων αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ γῇ.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
