Psalms 70: Douay-Rheims, Vulgata Clementina and Septuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
Douay-RheimsVulgata ClementinaSeptuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
A psalm for David. Of the sons of Jonadab, and the former captives. In thee, O Lord, I have hoped, let me never be put to confusion:Psalmus David, filiorum Ionadab, et priorum captivorum. In te, Domine, speravi; non confundar in aeternum.Τῷ Δαυὶδ υἱῶν Ἰωναδὰβ, καὶ τῶν πρώτων αἰχμαλωτισθέντων.
Deliver me in thy justice, and rescue me. Incline thy ear unto me, and save me.In iustitia tua libera me, et eripe me: inclina ad me aurem tuam, et salva me.Ἐν τῇ δικαιοσύνῃ σου ῥῦσαί με καὶ ἐξελοῦ με, κλῖνον πρὸς μὲ τὸ οὖς σου καὶ σῶσόν με.
Be thou unto me a God, a protector, and a place of strength: that thou mayst make me safe. For thou art my firmament and my refuge.Esto mihi in Deum protectorem, et in locum munitum, ut salvum me facias: quoniam firmamentum meum et refugium meum es tu.Γενοῦ μοι εἰς Θεὸν ὑπερασπιστὴν, καὶ εἰς τόπον ὀχυρὸν τοῦ σῶσαί με, ὅτι στερέωμά μου καὶ καταφυγή μου εἶ σύ.
Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the sinner, and out of the hand of the transgressor of the law and of the unjust.Deus meus, eripe me de manu peccatoris, et de manu contra legem agentis, et iniqui:Ὁ Θεός μου ῥῦσαί με ἐκ χειρὸς ἁμαρτωλοῦ, ἐκ χειρὸς παρανομοῦντος καὶ ἀδικοῦντος.
For thou art my patience, O Lord: my hope, O Lord, from my youth;quoniam tu es patientia mea, Domine; Domine, spes mea a iuventute mea.Ὅτι σὺ εἶ ἡ ὑπομονή μου Κύριε, Κύριε ἡ ἐλπίς μου ἐκ νεότητός μου·
By thee have I been confirmed from the womb: from my mother’s womb thou art my protector. Of thee shall I continually sing:In te confirmatus sum ex utero; de ventre matris meae tu es protector meus; in te cantatio mea semper.Ἐπὶ σὲ ἐπεστηρίχθην ἀπὸ γαστρὸς, ἐκ κοιλίας μητρός μου σύ μου εἶ σκεπαστής.
I run become unto many as a wonder, but thou art a strong helper.
Let my mouth be filled with praise, that I may sing thy glory; thy greatness all the day long.
Cast me not off in the time of old age: when my strength shall fail, do not thou forsake me.Ne proiicias me in tempore senectutis; cum defecerit virtus mea, ne derelinquas me.Μὴ ἀποῤῥίψῃς με εἰς καιρὸν γήρους, ἐν τῷ ἐκλείπειν τὴν ἰσχύν μου μὴ ἐγκαταλίπῃς με.
For my enemies have spoken against me; and they that watched my soul have consulted together,Quia dixerunt inimici mei mihi, et qui custodiebant animam meam consilium fecerunt in unum,Ὅτι εἶπαν οἱ ἐχθροί μου ἐμοὶ, καὶ οἱ φυλάσσοντες τὴν ψυχήν μου ἐβουλεύσαντο ἐπιτοαυτὸ,
Saying: God hath forsaken him: pursue and take him, for there is none to deliver him.dicentes: Deus dereliquit eum: persequimini et comprehendite eum, quia non est qui eripiat.λέγοντες, ὁ Θεὸς ἐγκατέλιπεν αὐτὸν, καταδιώξατε καὶ καταλάβετε αὐτὸν, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ ῥυόμενος.
O God, be not thou far from me: O my God, make haste to my help.Deus, ne elongeris a me; Deus meus, in auxilium meum respice.Ὁ Θεὸς μὴ μακρύνῃς ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ,
Let them be confounded and come to nothing that detract my soul; let them be covered with confusion and shame that seek my hurt.
But I will always hope; and will add to all thy praise.Ego autem semper sperabo, et adiiciam super omnem laudem tuam.Ἐγὼ δὲ διαπαντὸς ἐλπιῶ, καὶ προσθήσω ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν αἴνεσίν σου.
My mouth shall shew forth thy justice; thy salvation all the day long. Because I have not known learning,Os meum annuntiabit iustitiam tuam, tota die salutare tuum.
I will enter into the powers of the Lord: O Lord, I will be mindful of thy justice alone.introibo in potentias Domini; Domine, memorabor iustitiae tuae solius.Εἰσελεύσομαι ἐν δυναστείᾳ Κυρίου, Κύριε μνησθήσομαι τῆς δικαιοσύνης σου μόνου.
Thou hast taught me, O God, from my youth: and till now I will declare thy wonderful works.Deus, docuisti me a iuventute mea; et usque nunc pronuntiabo mirabilia tua.Ἐδίδαξας με ὁ Θεὸς ἐκ νεότητός μου, καὶ μέχρι νῦν ἀπαγγελῶ τὰ θαυμάσιά σου,
And unto old age and grey hairs: O God, forsake me not, Until I shew forth thy arm to all the generation that is to come: Thy power,Et usque in senectam et senium, Deus, ne derelinquas me, donec annuntiem brachium tuum generationi omni quae ventura est, potentiam tuam,καὶ ἕως γήρους καὶ πρεσβείου· ὁ Θεὸς μὴ ἐγκαταλίπῃς με, ἕως ἂν ἀπαγγείλω τὸν βραχίονά σου πάσῃ τῇ γενεᾷ τῇ ἐρχομένῃ· Τὴν δυναστείαν σου,
And thy justice, O God, even to the highest great things thou hast done: O God, who is like to thee?et iustitiam tuam, Deus, usque in altissima; quae fecisti magnalia, Deus: quis similis tibi?καὶ τὴν δικαιοσύνην σου ὁ Θεὸς ἕως ὑψίστων, ἃ ἐποίησας μεγαλεῖα· ὁ Θεὸς τίς ὅμοιός σοι;
How great troubles hast thou shewn me, many and grievous: and turning thou hast brought me to life, and hast brought me back again from the depths of the earth:Quantas ostendisti mihi tribulationes multas et malas! et conversus vivificasti me, et de abyssis terrae iterum reduxisti me.Ὅσας ἔδειξάς μοι θλίψεις πολλὰς καὶ κακάς; καὶ ἐπιστρέψας ἐζωοποίησάς με, καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἀβύσσων τῆς γῆς πάλιν ἀνήγαγές με.
Thou hast multiplied thy magnificence; and turning to me thou hast comforted me.Multiplicasti magnificentiam tuam; et conversus consolatus es me.Ἐπλεόνασας τὴν δικαιοσύνην σου, καὶ ἐπιστρέψας παρεκάλεσάς με, καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἀβύσσων τῆς γῆς πάλιν ἀνήγαγές με.
For I will also confess to thee thy truth with the instruments of psaltery: O God, I will sing to thee with the harp, thou holy one of Israel.Nam et ego confitebor tibi in vasis psalmi veritatem tuam, Deus; psallam tibi in cithara, sanctus Israël.Καὶ γὰρ ἐγὼ ἐξομολογήσομαί σοι ἐν σκεύει ψαλμοῦ τὴν ἀλήθειάν σου ὁ Θεὸς, ψαλῶ σοι ἐν κιθάρᾳ ὁ ἅγιος τοῦ Ἰσραήλ.
My lips shall greatly rejoice, when I shall sing to thee; and my soul which thou hast redeemed.
Yea and my tongue shall meditate on thy justice all the day; when they shall be confounded and put to shame that seek evils to me.Sed et lingua mea tota die meditabitur iustitiam tuam, cum confusi et reveriti fuerint qui quaerunt mala mihi.Ἔτι δὲ καὶ ἡ γλῶσσά μου ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν μελετήσει τὴν δικαιοσύνην σου, ὅταν αἰσχυνθῶσι καὶ ἐντραπῶσιν οἱ ζητοῦντες τὰ κακά μοι.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
