If it had not been that the Lord was with us, let Israel now say:Canticum graduum. Nisi quia Dominus erat in nobis, dicat nunc Israël,Ὠδὴ τῶν ἀναβαθμῶν. Εἰ μὴ ὅτι Κύριος ἦν ἐν ἡμῖν, εἰπάτω δὴ Ἰσραὴλ,
If it had not been that the Lord was with us, When men rose up against us,nisi quia Dominus erat in nobis: cum exsurgerent homines in nos,εἰ μὴ ὅτι Κύριος ἦν ἐν ἡμῖν, ἐν τῷ ἐπαναστῆναι ἀνθρώπους ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς,
Perhaps they had swallowed us up alive. When their fury was enkindled against us,forte vivos deglutissent nos; cum irasceretur furor eorum in nos,ἄρα ζῶντας ἂν κατέπιον ἡμᾶς· ἐν τῷ ὀργισθῆναι τὸν θυμὸν αὐτῶν ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς,
Perhaps the waters had swallowed us up.forsitan aqua absorbuisset nos;ἄρα τὸ ὕδωρ ἂν κατεπόντισεν ἡμᾶς· χείμαῤῥον διῆλθεν ἡ ψυχὴ ἡμῶν.
Our soul hath passed through a torrent: perhaps our soul had passed through a water insupportable.torrentem pertransivit anima nostra; forsitan pertransisset anima nostra aquam intolerabilem.Ἄρα διῆλθεν ἡ ψυχὴ ἡμῶν τὸ ὕδωρ τὸ ἀνυπόστατον.
Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us to be a prey to their teeth.Benedictus Dominus, qui non dedit nos in captionem dentibus eorum.Εὐλογητὸς Κύριος, ὃς οὐκ ἔδωκεν ἡμᾶς εἰς θήραν τοῖς ὀδοῦσιν αὐτῶν.
Our soul hath been delivered as a sparrow out of the snare of the followers. The snare is broken, and we are delivered.
Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.Adiutorium nostrum in nomine Domini, qui fecit caelum et terram.Ἡ βοήθεια ἡμῶν ἐν ὀνόματι Κυρίου, τοῦ ποιήσαντος τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
