Unto the end, for the sons of Core, to give understanding. In finem.
We have heard, O God, with our ears: our fathers have declared to us, The work, thou hast wrought in their days, and in the days of old.Deus, auribus nostris audivimus, patres nostri annuntiaverunt nobis, opus quod operatus es in diebus eorum, et in diebus antiquis.Ὁ Θεὸς ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν ἡμῶν ἠκούσαμεν, οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν ἀνήγγειλαν ἡμῖν, ἔργον ὃ εἰργάσω ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις αὐτῶν, ἐν ἡμεραίς ἀρχαίαις.
Thy hand destroyed the Gentiles, and thou plantedst them: thou didst afflict the people and cast them out.
For they got not the possession of the land by their own sword: neither did their own arm save them. But thy right hand and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance: because thou wast pleased with them.Nec enim in gladio suo possederunt terram, et brachium eorum non salvavit eos: sed dextera tua et brachium tuum, et illuminatio vultus tui, quoniam complacuisti in eis.Οὐ γὰρ ἐν τῇ ῥομφαίᾳ αὐτῶν ἐκληρονόμησαν γῆν, καὶ ὁ βραχίων αὐτῶν οὐκ ἔσωσεν αὐτοὺς, ἀλλὰ ἡ δεξιά σου καὶ ὁ βραχίων σου, καὶ ὁ φωτισμὸς τοῦ προσώπου σου, ὅτι εὐδόκησας ἐν αὐτοῖς.
Thou art thyself my king and my God, who commandest the saving of Jacob.
Through thee we will push down our enemies with the horn: and through thy name we will despise them that rise up against us.In te inimicos nostros ventilabimus cornu, et in nomine tuo spernemus insurgentes in nobis.Ἐν σοὶ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ἡμῶν κερατιοῦμεν, καὶ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐξουθενώσομεν τοὺς ἐπανισταμένους ἡμῖν.
For I will not trust in my bow: neither shall my sword save me.Non enim in arcu meo sperabo, et gladius meus non salvabit me:Οὐ γὰρ ἐπὶ τῷ τόξῳ μου ἐλπιῶ, καὶ ἡ ῥομφαία μου οὐ σώσει με.
But thou hast saved us from them that afflict us: and hast put them to shame that hate us.salvasti enim nos de affligentibus nos, et odientes nos confudisti.Ἔσωσας γὰρ ἡμᾶς ἐκ τῶν θλιβόντων ἡμᾶς, καὶ τοὺς μισοῦντας ἡμᾶς κατῄσχυνας.
In God shall we glory all the day long: and in thy name we will give praise for ever.In Deo laudabimur tota die, et in nomine tuo confitebimur in saeculum.Ἐν τῷ Θεῷ ἐπαινεθησόμεθα ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν, καὶ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐξομολογησόμεθα εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.
But now thou hast cast us off, and put us to shame: and thou, O God, wilt not go out with our armies.Nunc autem repulisti et confudisti nos, et non egredieris, Deus, in virtutibus nostris.Νυνὶ δὲ ἀπώσω καὶ κατῄσχυνας ἡμᾶς, καὶ οὐκ ἐξελεύσῃ ἐν ταῖς δυνάμεσιν ἡμῶν.
Thou hast made us turn our back to our enemies: and they that hated us plundered for themselves.
Thou hast given us up like sheep to be eaten: thou hast scattered us among the nations.Dedisti nos tamquam oves escarum, et in gentibus dispersisti nos.Ἔδωκας ἡμᾶς ὡς πρόβατα βρώσεως, καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι διέσπειρας ἡμᾶς·
Thou hast sold thy people for no price: and there was no reckoning in the exchange of them.Vendidisti populum tuum sine pretio, et non fuit multitudo in commutationibus eorum.Ἀπέδου τὸν λαόν σου ἄνευ τιμῆς, καὶ οὐκ ἦν πλῆθος ἐν τοῖς ἀλαλάγμασιν αὐτῶν.
Thou hast made us a reproach to our neighbours, a scoff and derision to them that are round about us.Posuisti nos opprobrium vicinis nostris; subsannationem et derisum his qui sunt in circuitu nostro.Ἔθου ἡμᾶς ὄνειδος τοῖς γείτοσιν ἡμῶν, μυκτηρισμὸν καὶ καταγέλωτα τοῖς κύκλῳ ἡμῶν.
Thou hast made us a byword among the Gentiles: a shaking of the head among the people.Posuisti nos in similitudinem gentibus; commotionem capitis in populis.Ἔθου ἡμᾶς εἰς παραβολὴν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι, κίνησιν κεφαλῆς ἐν τοῖς λαοῖς.
All the day long my shame is before me: and the confusion of my face hath covered me,Tota die verecundia mea contra me est, et confusio faciei meae cooperuit me:Ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ἡ ἐντροπή μου κατεναντίον μου ἐστὶ, καὶ ἡ αἰσχύνη τοῦ προσώπου μου ἐκάλυψέ με,
At the voice of him that reproacheth and detracteth me: at the face of the enemy and persecutor.a voce exprobrantis et obloquentis, a facie inimici et persequentis.ἀπὸ φωνῆς ὀνειδίζοντος καὶ παραλαλοῦντος, ἀπὸ προσώπου ἐχθροῦ καὶ ἐκδιώκοντος.
All these things have come upon us, yet we have not forgotten thee: and we have not done wickedly in they covenant.Haec omnia venerunt super nos; nec obliti sumus te, et inique non egimus in testamento tuo.Ταῦτα πάντα ἦλθεν ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς, καὶ οὐκ ἐπελαθόμεθά σου, καὶ οὐκ ἠδικήσαμεν ἐν διαθήκῃ σου.
And our heart hath not turned back: neither hast thou turned aside our steps from thy way.Et non recessit retro cor nostrum; et declinasti semitas nostras a via tua:Καὶ οὐκ ἀπέστη εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω ἡ καρδία ἡμῶν, καὶ ἐξέκλινας τὰς τρίβους ἡμῶν ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ σου.
For thou hast humbled us in the place of affliction: and the shadow of death hath covered us.quoniam humiliasti nos in loco afflictionis, et cooperuit nos umbra mortis.Ὅτι ἐταπείνωσας ἡμᾶς ἐν τόπῳ κακώσεως, καὶ ἐπεκάλυψεν ἡμᾶς σκιὰ θανάτου.
If we have forgotten the name of our God, and if we have spread forth our hands to a strange god:Si obliti sumus nomen Dei nostri, et si expandimus manus nostras ad deum alienum,Εἰ ἐπελαθόμεθα τοῦ ὀνόματος τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν, καὶ εἰ διεπετάσαμεν χεῖρας ἡμῶν πρὸς θεὸν ἀλλότριον,
Shall not God search out these things: for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Because for thy sake we are killed all the day long: we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.nonne Deus requiret ista? ipse enim novit abscondita cordis.
LXX 43:24Arise, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, and cast us not off to the end.Exsurge; quare obdormis, Domine? exsurge, et ne repellas in finem.Ἐξεγέρθητι, ἱνατί ὑπνοῖς Κύριε; ἀνάστηθι, καὶ μὴ ἀπώσῃ εἰς τέλος.
LXX 43:25Why turnest thou face away? and forgettest our want and our trouble?Quare faciem tuam avertis? oblivisceris inopiae nostrae et tribulationis nostrae?Ἱνατί τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἀποστρέφεις; ἐπιλανθάνῃ τῆς πτωχείας ἡμῶν καὶ τῆς θλίψεως ἡμῶν;
LXX 43:26For our soul is humbled down to the dust: our belly cleaveth to the earth.Quoniam humiliata est in pulvere anima nostra; conglutinatus est in terra venter noster.Ὅτι ἐταπεινώθη εἰς χοῦν ἡ ψυχὴ ἡμῶν, ἐκολλήθη εἰς γῆν ἡ γαστὴρ ἡμῶν.
LXX 43:27Arise, O Lord, help us and redeem us for thy name’s sake.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
