Douay-RheimsSeptuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
Job also added, taking up his parable, and said:Ἔτι δὲ προσθεὶς Ἰὼβ εἶπεν τῷ προοιμίῳ,
As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment, and the Almighty, who hath brought my soul to bitterness,Ζῇ ὁ Θεὸς, ὃς οὕτω με κέκρικε, καὶ ὁ παντοκράτωρ ὁ πικράνας μου τὴν ψυχὴν,
As long as breath remaineth in me, and the spirit of God in my nostrils,εἰ μὴν ἔτι τῆς πνοῆς μου ἐνούσης, πνεῦμα δὲ θεῖον τὸ περιόν μοι ἐν ῥινὶ,
My lips shall not speak iniquity, neither shall my tongue contrive lying.μὴ λαλήσειν τὰ χείλη μου ὄνομα, οὐδὲ ἡ ψυχή μου μελετήσει ἄδικα.
God forbid that I should judge you to be just: till I die I will not depart from my innocence.Μή μοι εἴη δικαίους ὑμᾶς ἀποφῆναι ἕως ἂν ἀποθάνω, οὐ γὰρ ἀπαλλάξω μου τὴν ἀκακίαν μου.
My justification, which I have begun to hold, I will not forsake: for my heart doth not reprehend me in all my life.Δικαιοσύνῃ δὲ προσέχων οὐ μὴν προῶμαι, οὐ γὰρ σύνοιδα ἐμαυτῷ ἄτοπα πράξας.
Let my enemy be as the ungodly, and my adversary as the wicked one.Οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ εἴησαν οἱ ἐχθροί μου ὥσπερ ἡ καταστροφὴ τῶν ἀσεβῶν, καὶ οἱ ἐπʼ ἐμὲ ἐπανιστάμενοι, ὥσπερ ἡ ἀπώλεια τῶν παρανόμων.
For what is the hope of the hypocrite if through covetousness he take by violence, and God deliver not his soul?Καὶ τίς γάρ ἐστιν ἐλπὶς ἀσεβεῖ, ὅτι ἐπέχει; πεποιθὼς ἐπὶ κύριον ἄρα σωθήσεται;
Will God hear his cry, when distress shall come upon him?Ἢ τὴν δέησιν αὐτοῦ εἰσακούσεται ὁ Θεός; ἢ ἐπελθούσης αὐτῷ ἀνάγκης
Or can he delight himself in the Almighty, and call upon God at all times?μὴ ἔχει τινὰ παῤῥησίαν ἔναντι αὐτοῦ; ἢ ὡς ἐπικαλεσαμένου αὐτοῦ εἰσακούσεται αὐτοῦ;
I will teach you by the hand of God, what the Almighty hath, and I will not conceal it.Ἀλλὰ δὴ ἀναγγελῶ ὑμῖν τί ἐστιν ἐν χειρὶ Κυρίου, ἅ ἐστι παρὰ παντοκράτορι, οὐ ψεύσομαι.
Behold you all know it, and why do you speak vain things without cause?Ἰδοὺ πάντες οἴδατε, ὅτι κενὰ κενοῖς ἐπιβάλλετε.
This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the inheritance of the violent, which they shall receive of the Almighty.Αὕτη ἡ μερὶς ἀνθρώπου ἀσεβοῦς παρὰ Κυρίου, κτῆμα δὲ δυναστῶν ἐλεύσεται παρὰ παντοκράτορος ἐπʼ αὐτούς.
If his sons be multiplied, they shall be for the sword, and his grandsons shall not be filled with bread.Ἐὰν δἐ πολλοὶ γένωνται οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν, εἰς σφαγὴν ἔσονται· ἐὰν δὲ καὶ ἀνδρωθῶσι, προσαιτήσουσιν.
They that shall remain of him, shall be buried in death, and his widows shall not weep.Οἱ δὲ περιόντες αὐτοῦ ἐν θανάτῳ τελευτήσουσι, χήρας δὲ αὐτῶν οὐδεὶς ἐλεήσει.
If he shall heap together silver as earth, and prepare raiment as clay,Ἐὰν συναγάγῃ ὥσπερ γῆν ἀργύριον, ἶσα δὲ πηλῷ ἑτοιμάσῃ χρυσίον,
He shall prepare indeed, but the just man shall be clothed with it: and the innocent shall divide the silver.ταῦτα πάντα δίκαιοι περιποιήσονται, τὰ δὲ χρήματα αὐτοῦ ἀληθινοὶ καθέξουσιν.
He hath built his house as a moth, and as a keeper he hath made a booth.Ἀπέβη δὲ ὁ οἶκος αὐτοῦ ὥσπερ σῆτες, καὶ ὥσπερ ἀράχνη.
The rich man when he shall sleep shall take away nothing with him: he shall open his eyes and find nothing.Πλούσιος κοιμηθήσεται καὶ οὐ προσθήσει, ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ διήνοιξε καὶ οὐκ ἔστι.
Poverty like water shall take hold on him, a tempest shall oppress him in the night.Συνήντησαν αὐτῷ ὥσπερ ὕδωρ αἱ ὀδύναι, νυκτὶ δὲ ὑφείλατο αὐτὸν γνόφος.
A burning wind shall take him up, and carry him away, and as a whirlwind shall snatch him from his place.Ἀναλήψεται δὲ αὐτὸν καύσων καὶ ἀπελεύσεται, καὶ λικμήσει αὐτὸν ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ.
And he shall cast upon him, and shall not spare: out of his hand he would willingly flee.Καὶ ἐπιῤῥίψει ἐπʼ αὐτὸν καὶ οὐ φείσεται, ἐκ χειρὸς αὐτοῦ φυγῇ φεύξεται.
He shall clasp his hands upon him, and shall hiss at him, beholding his place.Κροτήσει ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς χεῖρας αὐτῶν, καὶ συριεῖ αὐτὸν ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
