Ephesians 6: Douay-Rheims, Vulgata Clementina and Greek text (Patriarchal edition, 1904)
Douay-RheimsVulgata ClementinaGreek text (Patriarchal edition, 1904)
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is just.Filii, obedite parentibus vestris in Domino: hoc enim iustum est.Τὰ τέκνα ὑπακούετε τοῖς γονεῦσιν ὑμῶν ἐν Κυρίῳ· τοῦτο γάρ ἐστι δίκαιον.
Honour thy father and thy mother, which is the first commandment with a promise:Honora patrem tuum, et matrem tuam, quod est mandatum primum in promissione:τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα, ἥτις ἐστὶν ἐντολὴ πρώτη ἐν ἐπαγγελίᾳ,
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest be long lived upon earth.ut bene sit tibi, et sis longaevus super terram.ἵνα εὖ σοι γένηται καὶ ἔσῃ μακροχρόνιος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.
And you, fathers, provoke not your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and correction of the Lord.Et vos patres, nolite ad iracundiam provocare filios vestros: sed educate illos in disciplina et correptione Domini.καὶ οἱ πατέρες μὴ παροργίζετε τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν, ἀλλ᾽ ἐκτρέφετε αὐτὰ ἐν παιδείᾳ καὶ νουθεσίᾳ Κυρίου.
Servants, be obedient to them that are your lords according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to Christ:Servi, obedite dominis carnalibus cum timore et tremore, in simplicitate cordis vestri, sicut Christo:Οἱ δοῦλοι ὑπακούετε τοῖς κυρίοις κατὰ σάρκα μετὰ φόβου καὶ τρόμου ἐν ἁπλότητι τῆς καρδίας ὑμῶν ὡς τῷ Χριστῷ,
Not serving to the eye, as it were pleasing men, but, as the servants of Christ doing the will of God from the heart, non ad oculum servientes, quasi hominibus placentes, sed ut servi Christi, facientes voluntatem Dei ex animo,μὴ κατ᾽ ὀφθαλμοδουλίαν ὡς ἀνθρωπάρεσκοι, ἀλλ᾽ ὡς δοῦλοι [τοῦ] Χριστοῦ, ποιοῦντες τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐκ ψυχῆς,
With a good will serving, as to the Lord, and not to men.cum bona voluntate servientes, sicut Domino, et non hominibus:μετ᾽ εὐνοίας δουλεύοντες [ὡς] τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ οὐκ ἀνθρώποις,
Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man shall do, the same shall he receive from the Lord, whether he be bond, or free.scientes quoniam unusquisque quodcumque fecerit bonum, hoc recipiet a Domino, sive servus, sive liber.εἰδότες ὅτι ὃ ἐάν τι ἕκαστος ποιήσῃ ἀγαθόν, τοῦτο κομιεῖται παρὰ τοῦ Κυρίου, εἴτε δοῦλος εἴτε ἐλεύθερος.
And you, masters, do the same things to them, forbearing threatenings, knowing that the Lord both of them and you is in heaven; and there is no respect of persons with him.Et vos domini, eadem facite illis, remittentes minas: scientes quia et illorum et vester Dominus est in caelis: et personarum acceptio non est apud eum.Καὶ οἱ κύριοι τὰ αὐτὰ ποιεῖτε πρὸς αὐτούς, ἀνιέντες τὴν ἀπειλήν, εἰδότες ὅτι καὶ ὑμῶν αὐτῶν ὁ Κύριός ἐστιν ἐν οὐρανοῖς, καὶ προσωποληψία οὐκ ἔστι παρ᾽ αὐτῷ.
Finally, brethren, be strengthened in the Lord, and in the might of his power.De cetero, fratres, confortamini in Domino, et in potentia virtutis eius.Τὸ λοιπόν, ἀδελφοί μου, ἐνδυναμοῦσθε ἐν Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ κράτει τῆς ἰσχύος αὐτοῦ.
Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil.
For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.quoniam non est nobis colluctatio adversus carnem et sanguinem, sed adversus principes, et potestates, adversus mundi rectores tenebrarum harum, contra spiritualia nequitiae, in caelestibus.ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἡμῖν ἡ πάλη πρὸς αἷμα καὶ σάρκα, ἀλλὰ πρὸς τὰς ἀρχάς, πρὸς τὰς ἐξουσίας, πρὸς τοὺς κοσμοκράτορας τοῦ σκότους τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου, πρὸς τὰ πνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίας ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις.
Therefore take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand in all things perfect.Propterea accipite armaturam Dei, ut possitis resistere in die malo, et in omnibus perfecti stare.διὰ τοῦτο ἀναλάβετε τὴν πανοπλίαν τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἵνα δυνηθῆτε ἀντιστῆναι ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ πονηρᾷ καὶ ἅπαντα κατεργασάμενοι στῆναι.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of justice,State ergo succincti lumbos vestros in veritate, et induti loricam iustitiae,στῆτε οὖν περιζωσάμενοι τὴν ὀσφὺν ὑμῶν ἐν ἀληθείᾳ, καὶ ἐνδυσάμενοι τὸν θώρακα τῆς δικαιοσύνης,
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace:et calceati pedes in praeparatione Evangelii pacis,καὶ ὑποδησάμενοι τοὺς πόδας ἐν ἑτοιμασίᾳ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου τῆς εἰρήνης,
In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one.in omnibus sumentes scutum fidei, in quo possitis omnia tela nequissimi ignea extinguere:ἐπὶ πᾶσιν ἀναλαβόντες τὸν θυρεὸν τῆς πίστεως, ἐν ᾧ δυνήσεσθε πάντα τὰ βέλη τοῦ πονηροῦ τὰ πεπυρωμένα σβέσαι·
And take unto you the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God).et galeam salutis assumite, et gladium spiritus (quod est verbum Dei),καὶ τὴν περικεφαλαίαν τοῦ σωτηρίου δέξασθε, καὶ τὴν μάχαιραν τοῦ Πνεύματος, ὅ ἐστι ῥῆμα Θεοῦ, —
By all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the spirit; and in the same watching with all instance and supplication for all the saints:per omnem orationem et obsecrationem orantes omni tempore in spiritu: et in ipso vigilantes in omni instantia et obsecratione pro omnibus sanctis:διὰ πάσης προσευχῆς καὶ δεήσεως, προσευχόμενοι ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ ἐν Πνεύματι, καὶ εἰς αὐτὸ τοῦτο ἀγρυπνοῦντες ἐν πάσῃ προσκαρτερήσει καὶ δεήσει περὶ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων,
And for me, that speech may be given me, that I may open my mouth with confidence, to make known the mystery of the gospel.et pro me, ut detur mihi sermo in apertione oris mei cum fiducia, notum facere mysterium Evangelii:καὶ ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ, ἵνα μοι δοθῇ λόγος ἐν ἀνοίξει τοῦ στόματός μου, ἐν παρρησίᾳ γνωρίσαι τὸ μυστήριον τοῦ εὐαγγελίου,
For which I am an ambassador in a chain, so that therein I may be bold to speak according as I ought.pro quo legatione fungor in catena, ita ut in ipso audeam, prout oportet me loqui.ὑπὲρ οὗ πρεσβεύω ἐν ἁλύσει, ἵνα ἐν αὐτῷ παρρησιάσωμαι ὡς δεῖ με λαλῆσαι.
But that you also may know the things that concern me, and what I am doing, Tychicus, my dearest brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make known to you all things:Ut autem et vos sciatis quae circa me sunt, quid agam, omnia vobis nota faciet Tychicus, carissimus frater, et fidelis minister in Domino:Ἵνα δὲ εἰδῆτε καὶ ὑμεῖς τὰ κατ᾽ ἐμέ, τί πράσσω, πάντα ὑμῖν γνωρίσει Τυχικὸς ὁ ἀγαπητὸς ἀδελφὸς καὶ πιστὸς διάκονος ἐν Κυρίῳ,
Whom I have sent to you for this same purpose, that you may know the things concerning us, and that he may comfort your hearts.quem misi ad vos in hoc ipsum, ut cognoscatis quae circa nos sunt, et consoletur corda vestra.ὃν ἔπεμψα πρὸς ὑμᾶς εἰς αὐτὸ τοῦτο, ἵνα γνῶτε τὰ περὶ ἡμῶν καὶ παρακαλέσῃ τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν.
Peace be to the brethren and charity with faith, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.Pax fratribus, et caritas cum fide a Deo Patre et Domino Iesu Christo.Εἰρήνη τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς καὶ ἀγάπη μετὰ πίστεως ἀπὸ Θεοῦ πατρὸς καὶ Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.
Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in incorruption. Amen.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
