Douay-RheimsVulgata ClementinaSeptuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
Then the people of the land took Joachaz the son of Josias, and made him king instead of his father in Jerusalem.Tulit ergo populus terrae Ioachaz filium Iosiae, et constituit regem pro patre suo in Ierusalem.Καὶ ἔλαβεν ὁ λαὸς τῆς γῆς τὸν Ἰωάχαζ υἱὸν Ἰωσίου, καὶ ἔχρισαν αὐτὸν, καὶ κατέστησαν αὐτὸν ἀντὶ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ εἰς βασιλέα ἐπὶ Ἱερουσαλήμ.
Joachaz was three and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.
And the king of Egypt came to Jerusalem, and deposed him, and condemned the land in a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.Amovit autem eum rex Aegypti cum venisset in Ierusalem, et condemnavit terram centum talentis argenti, et talento auri.Καὶ μετήγαγεν αὐτὸν ὁ βασιλεὺς εἰς Αἴγυπτον, καὶ ἐπέβαλε φόρον ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, ἑκατὸν τάλαντα ἀργυρίου καὶ τάλαντον χρυσίου.
And he made Eliakim his brother king in his stead, over Juda and Jerusalem: and he turned his name to Joakim: but he took Joachaz with him, and carried him away into Egypt.
Joakim was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did evil before the Lord his God.Viginti quinque annorum erat Ioakim cum regnare coepisset, et undecim annis regnavit in Ierusalem: fecitque malum coram Domino Deo suo.Ὢν εἴκοσι καὶ πέντε ἐτῶν Ἰωακὶμ ἐν τῷ βασιλεύειν αὐτὸν, καὶ ἕνδεκα ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ, καὶ ὄνομα τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ Ζεχωρὰ, θυγάτηρ Νηρίου ἐκ Ῥαμά.
Against him came up Nabuchodonosor king of the Chaldeans, and led him bound in chains into Babylon.
And he carried also thither the vessels of the Lord, and put them in his temple.Ad quam et vasa Domini transtulit, et posuit ea in templo suo.Καὶ μήρος τῶν σκευῶν σἴκου Κυρίου ἀπήνεγκεν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα, καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὰ ἐν τῷ ναῷ αὐτοῦ ἐν Βαβυλῶνι.
But the rest of the acts of Joakim, and his abominations, which he wrought, and the things that were found in him, are contained in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel. And Joachin his son reigned in his stead.
Joachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.Octo annorum erat Ioachin cum regnare coepisset, et tribus mensibus ac decem diebus regnavit in Ierusalem: fecitque malum in conspectu Domini.Ὀκτὼ ἐτῶν Ἰεχονίας ἐν τῷ βασιλεύειν αὐτὸν, καὶ τρίμηνον καὶ δέκα ἡμέρας ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ, καὶ ἐποίησε τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον Κυρίου.
And at the return of the year, king Nabuchodonosor sent, and brought him to Babylon, carrying away at the same time the most precious vessels of the house of the Lord: and he made Sedecias his uncle king over Juda and Jerusalem.Cumque anni circulus volveretur, misit Nabuchodonosor rex, qui adduxerunt eum in Babylonem, asportatis simul pretiosissimis vasis domus Domini.
Sedecias was one and twenty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.Viginti et unius anni erat Sedecias cum regnare coepisset, et undecim annis regnavit in Ierusalem:Ἐτῶν εἴκοσι υἱὸς καὶ ἑνὸς ἔτου Σεδεκίας ἐν τῷ βασιλεύειν αὐτὸν, καὶ ἕνδεκα ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ.
And he did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God, and did not reverence the face of Jeremias the prophet speaking to him from the mouth of the Lord.fecitque malum in oculis Domini Dei sui, nec erubuit faciem Ieremiae prophetae, loquentis ad se ex ore Domini.Καὶ ἐποίησε τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον Κορίου Θεοῦ αὐτοῦ, οὐκ ἐνετράπη ἀπὸ προσώπου Ἱερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου καὶ ἐκ στόματος Κυρίου,
He also revolted from king Nabuchodonosor, who had made him swear by God: and he hardened his neck and his heart, from returning to the Lord the God of Israel.A rege quoque Nabuchodonosor recessit, qui adiuraverat eum per Deum: et induravit cervicem suam et cor ut non reverteretur ad Dominum Deum Israël.ἐν τῷ τὰ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Ναβουχοδονόσορ ἀθετῆσαι, ἃ ὥρκισεν αὐτὸν κατὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ ἐσκλήρυνε τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ κατίσχυσε, τοῦ μὴ ἐπιστρέψαι πρὸς Κύριον Θεὸν Ἰσραήλ.
Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people wickedly transgressed according to all the abominations of the Gentiles: and they defiled the house of the Lord, which he had sanctified to himself in Jerusalem.Sed et universi principes sacerdotum et populus praevaricati sunt inique iuxta universas abominationes gentium, et polluerunt domum Domini quam sanctificaverat sibi in Ierusalem.Καὶ πάντες οἱ ἔνδοξοι Ἰούδα, καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς, καὶ ὁ λαὸς τῆς γῆς ἐπλήθυναν τοῦ ἀθετῆσαι ἀθετήματα βδελυγμάτων ἐθνῶν, καὶ ἐμίαναν τὸν οἶκον Κυρίου τὸν ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ.
And the Lord the God of their fathers sent to them, by the hand of his messengers, rising early, and daily admonishing them: because he spared his people and his dwelling place.
But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused the prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and there was no remedy. At illi subsannabant nuntios Dei, et parvipendebant sermones eius, illudebantque prophetis, donec ascenderet furor Domini in populum eius, et esset nulla curatio.Καὶ ἦσαν μυκτηρίζοντες τοὺς ἀγγέλους αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐξουθενοῦντες τοὺς λόγους αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐμπαίζοντες ἐν τοῖς προφήταις αὐτοῦ, ἕως ἀνέβη ὁ θυμὸς Κυρίου ἐν τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ, ἕως οὐκ ἦν ἴαμα.
For he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, and he slew their young men with the sword in the house of his sanctuary, he had no compassion on young man, or maiden, old man or even him that stooped for age, but he delivered them all into his hands.Adduxit enim super eos regem Chaldaeorum, et interfecit iuvenes eorum gladio in domo sanctuarii sui: non est misertus adolescentis, et virginis, et senis, nec decrepiti quidem, sed omnes tradidit in manibus eius.Καὶ ἤγαγεν ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς βασιλέα Χαλδαίων, καὶ ἀπέκτεινε τοὺς νεανίσκους αὐτῶν ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ ἐν οἴκῳ ἁγιάσματος αὐτοῦ· καὶ οὐκ ἐφείσατο τοῦ Σεδεκίου, καὶ τὰς παρθένους αὐτῶν οὐκ ἠλέησε, καὶ τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους αὐτῶν ἀπήγαγον· τὰ πάντα παρέδωκεν ἐν χερσὶν αὐτῶν.
And all the vessels of the house of the Lord, great and small, and the treasures of the temple and of the king, and of the princes he carried away to Babylon.
And the enemies set fire to the house of God, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, burnt all the towers, and whatsoever was precious they destroyed.
Whosoever escaped the sword, was led into Babylon, and there served the king and his sons till the reign of the king of Persia.Si quis evaserat gladium, ductus in Babylonem servivit regi et filiis eius, donec imperaret rex Persarum,Καὶ ἀπῴκισε τοὺς καταλοίπους εἰς Βαβυλῶνα, καὶ ἦσαν αὐτῷ καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ εἰς δούλους ἕως βασιλείας Μήδων,
That the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremias might be fulfilled, and the land might keep her sabbaths: for all the days of the desolation she kept a sabbath, till the seventy years were expired.et compleretur sermo Domini ex ore Ieremiae, et celebraret terra sabbata sua: cunctis enim diebus desolationis egit sabbatum usque dum complerentur septuaginta anni.τοῦ πληρωθῆναι λόγον Κυρίου διὰ στόματος Ἱερεμίου, ἕως τοῦ προσδέξασθαι τὴν γῆν τὰ σάββατα αὐτῆς σαββατίσαι, πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ἐρημώσεως αὐτῆς σαββατίσαι εἰς συμπλήρωσιν ἐτῶν ἑβδομήκοντα.
But in the first year of Cyrus king of the Persians, to fulfill the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by the mouth of Jeremias, the Lord stirred up the heart of Cyrus king of the Persians who commanded it to be proclaimed through all his kingdom, and by writing also, saying:Anno autem primo Cyri regis Persarum, ad explendum sermonem Domini quem locutus fuerat per os Ieremiae, suscitavit Dominus spiritum Cyri regis Persarum: qui iussit praedicari in universo regno suo, etiam per scripturam, dicens:Ἔτους πρώτου Κύρου βασιλέως Περσῶν, μετὰ τὸ πληρωθῆναι ῥῆμα Κυρίου διὰ στὸματος Ἱερεμίου, ἐξήγειρε Κύριος τὸ πνεῦμα Κύρου βασιλέως Περσῶν, καὶ παρήγγειλε κηρύξαι ἐν πάσῃ τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ ἑν γραπτῷ, λέγων,
Thus saith Cyrus king of the Persians: All the kingdoms of the earth hath the Lord the God of heaven given to me, and he hath charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judea: who is there among you of all his people? The Lord his God be with him, and let him go up.Haec dicit Cyrus rex Persarum: Omnia regna terrae dedit mihi Dominus Deus caeli, et ipse praecepit mihi ut aedificarem ei domum in Ierusalem, quae est in Iudaea: quis ex vobis est in omni populo eius? sit Dominus Deis suus cum eo, et ascendat.Τάδε λέγει Κῦρος βασιλεὺς Περσῶν πάσαις ταῖς βασιλείαις τῆς γῆς, ἔδωκέ μοι Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ αὐτὸς ἐνετείλατό μοι οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον αὐτῷ ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ· τίς ἐξ ὑμῶν ἐκ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ αὐτοῦ; ἔσται Θεὸς αὐτοῦ μετʼ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀναβήτω.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
