Douay-RheimsSeptuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.Καὶ ἀπέστειλε Χειρὰμ βασιλεὺς Τύρου ἀγγέλους πρὸς Δαυὶδ, καὶ ξύλα κέδρινα, καὶ οἰκοδόμους, καὶ τέκτονας ξύλων, τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι αὐτῷ οἶκον.
And David perceived that the Lord had confirmed him king over Israel, and that his kingdom was exalted over his people Israel.Καὶ ἔγνω Δαυὶδ ὅτι ἡτοίμασεν αὐτὸν Κύριος εἰς βασιλέα ἐπὶ Ἰσραὴλ, ὅτι ηὐξήθη εἰς ὕψος ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ διὰ τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ Ἰσραήλ.
And David took other wives in Jerusalem: and he beget sons, and daughters.Καὶ ἔλαβε Δαυὶδ ἔτι γυναῖκας ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ· καὶ ἐτέχθησαν Δαυὶδ ἔτι υἱοὶ καὶ θυγατέρες.
Now these are the names of them that were born to him in Jerusalem: Samua, and Sobad, Nathan, and Solomon,Καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα αὐτῶν τῶν τεχθέντων, οἳ ἦσαν αὐτῷ ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ· Σαμαὰ, Σωβὰβ, Νάθαν, καὶ Σαλωμὼν,
Jebahar, and Elisua, and Eliphalet,καὶ Βαὰρ, καὶ Ἐλισὰ, καὶ Ἐλιφαλὴθ,
And Noga, and Napheg, and Japhia,καὶ Ναγὲθ, καὶ Ναφὰθ, καὶ Ἰαφιὲ,
Elisama. and Baaliada, and Eliphalet.καὶ Ἐλισαμαὲ, καὶ Ἐλιαδὲ, καὶ Ἐλιφαλά.
And the Philistines hearing that David was anointed king over all Israel, went all up to seek him: and David heard of it, and went out against them.Καὶ ἤκουσαν ἀλλόφυλοι ὅτι ἐχρίσθη Δαυὶδ βασιλεὺς ἐπὶ πάντα Ἰσραήλ· καὶ ἀνέβησαν πάντες οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι ζητῆσαι τὸν Δαυίδ· καὶ ἤκουσε Δαυὶδ, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτοῖς·
And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the vale of Raphaim.Καὶ ἀλλόφυλοι ἦλθον, καὶ συνέπεσον ἐν τῇ κοιλάδι τῶν γιγάντων.
And David consulted the Lord, saying: Shall I go up against the Philistines, and wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said to him: Go up, and I will deliver them into thy hand.Καὶ ἐπηρώτησε Δαυὶδ διὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ, λέγων, εἰ ἀναβῶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους, καὶ δώσεις αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰς χεῖράς μου; καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Κύριος, ἀνάβηθι, καὶ δώσω αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰς χεῖράς σου.
And when they were come to Baalpharasim, David defeated them there, and he said: God hath divided my enemies by my hand, as waters are divided: and therefore the name of that place was called Baalpharasim.Καὶ ἀνέβη εἰς Βαὰλ Φαρασὶν, καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτοὺς ἐκεῖ Δανίδ· καὶ εἶπε Δαυὶδ, διέκοψεν ὁ Θεὸς τοὺς ἐχθρούς μου ἐν χειρί μου, ὡς διακοπὴν ὕδατος· διὰ τοῦτο ἐκάλεσε τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου, Διακοπὴ Φαρσίν.
And they left there their gods, and David commanded that they should be burnt.Καὶ ἐγκατέλιπον ἐκεῖ τοὺς θεοὺς αὐτῶν οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι· καὶ εἶπε Δαυὶδ κατακαῦσαι ἐν πυρί.
Another time also the Philistines made an irruption, and spread themselves abroad in the valley.Καὶ προσέθεντο ἔτι ἀλλόφυλοι, καὶ συνέπεσαν ἔτι ἐν τῇ κοιλάδι τῶν γιγάντων.
And David consulted God again, and God said to him: Go not up after them, turn away from them, and come upon them over against the pear trees.Καὶ ἠρώτησε Δαυὶδ ἔτι ἐν Θεῷ· καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ Θεὸς, οὐ πορεύσῃ ὀπίσω αὐτῶν· ἀποστρέφου ἀπʼ αὐτῶν, καὶ παρέσῃ αὐτοῖς πλησίον τῶν ἀπίων.
And when thou shalt hear the sound of one going in the tops of the pear trees, then shalt thou go out to battle. For God is gone out before thee to strike the army of the Philistines.Καὶ ἔσται ἐν τῷ ἀκοῦσαί σε τὴν φωνὴν τοῦ συσσεισμοῦ αὐτῶν ἄκρων τῶν ἀπίων, τότε εἰσελεύσῃ εἰς τὸν πόλεμον, ὅτι ἐξῆλθεν ὁ Θεὸς ἔμπροσθέν σου τοῦ πατάξαι τὴν παρεμβολὴν τῶν ἀλλοφύλων.
And David did as God had commanded him, and defeated the army of the Philistines, slaying them from Gabaon to Gazera.Καὶ ἐποίησε καθὼς ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ ὁ Θεός· καὶ ἐπάταξε τὴν παρεμβολὴν τῶν ἀλλοφύλων ἀπὸ Γαβαὼν ἕως Γαζηρά.
And the name of David became famous in all countries, and the Lord made all nations fear him.Καὶ ἐγένετο ὄνομα Δαυὶδ ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ, καὶ Κύριος ἔδωκε τὸν φόβον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη.
