Romans 15: Douay-Rheims, Vulgata Clementina and Greek text (Patriarchal edition, 1904)
Douay-RheimsVulgata ClementinaGreek text (Patriarchal edition, 1904)
Now we that are stronger, ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
Let every one of you please his neighbour unto good, to edification.Unusquisque vestrum proximo suo placeat in bonum, ad aedificationem.ἕκαστος ἡμῶν τῷ πλησίον ἀρεσκέτω εἰς τὸ ἀγαθὸν πρὸς οἰκοδομήν·
For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written: The reproaches of them that reproached thee, fell upon me.Etenim Christus non sibi placuit, sed sicut scriptum est: Improperia improperantium tibi ceciderunt super me.καὶ γὰρ ὁ Χριστὸς οὐχ ἑαυτῷ ἤρεσεν, ἀλλὰ καθὼς γέγραπται, οἱ ὀνειδισμοὶ τῶν ὀνειδιζόντων σε ἐπέπεσον ἐπ᾽ ἐμέ.
For what things soever were written, were written for our learning: that through patience and the comfort of the scriptures, we might have hope.
Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of one mind one towards another, according to Jesus Christ:Deus autem patientiae et solatii det vobis idipsum sapere in alterutrum secundum Iesum Christum:ὁ δὲ Θεὸς τῆς ὑπομονῆς καὶ τῆς παρακλήσεως δῴη ὑμῖν τὸ αὐτὸ φρονεῖν ἐν ἀλλήλοις κατὰ Χριστὸν Ἰησοῦν,
That with one mind, and with one mouth, you may glorify God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.ut unanimes, uno ore honorificetis Deum et patrem Domini nostri Iesu Christi.ἵνα ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐν ἑνὶ στόματι δοξάζητε τὸν Θεὸν καὶ πατέρα τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.
Wherefore receive one another, as Christ also hath received you unto the honour of God.Propter quod suscipite invicem, sicut et Christus suscepit vos in honorem Dei.διὸ προσλαμβάνεσθε ἀλλήλους, καθὼς καὶ ὁ Χριστὸς προσελάβετο ὑμᾶς εἰς δόξαν Θεοῦ.
For I say that Christ Jesus was minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers.
But that the Gentiles are to glorify God for his mercy, as it is written: Therefore will I confess to thee, O Lord, among the Gentiles, and will sing to thy name.gentes autem super misericordia honorare Deum, sicut scriptum est: Propterea confitebor tibi in gentibus, Domine, et nomini tuo cantabo.τὰ δὲ ἔθνη ὑπὲρ ἐλέους δοξάσαι τὸν Θεόν, καθὼς γέγραπται· διὰ τοῦτο ἐξομολογήσομαί σοι ἐν ἔθνεσι, Κύριε, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματί σου ψαλῶ.
And again he saith: Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.
And again: Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and magnify him, all ye people.
And again Isaias saith: There shall be a root of Jesse; and he that shall rise up to rule the Gentiles, in him the Gentiles shall hope.Et rursus Isaias ait: Erit radix Iesse, et qui exsurget regere gentes, in eum gentes sperabunt.καὶ πάλιν Ἡσαΐας λέγει· ἔσται ἡ ῥίζα τοῦ Ἰεσσαί, καὶ ὁ ἀνιστάμενος ἄρχειν ἐθνῶν· ἐπ᾽ αὐτῷ ἔθνη ἐλπιοῦσιν.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing; that you may abound in hope, and in the power of the Holy Ghost.Deus autem spei repleat vos omni gaudio, et pace in credendo: ut abundetis in spe, et virtute Spiritus Sancti.Ὁ δὲ Θεὸς τῆς ἐλπίδος πληρώσαι ὑμᾶς πάσης χαρᾶς καὶ εἰρήνης ἐν τῷ πιστεύειν, εἰς τὸ περισσεύειν ὑμᾶς ἐν τῇ ἐλπίδι ἐν δυνάμει Πνεύματος Ἁγίου.
And I myself also, my brethren, am assured of you, that you also are full of love, replenished with all knowledge, so that you are able to admonish one another.
But I have written to you, brethren, more boldly in some sort, as it were putting you in mind: because of the grace which is given me from God.Audacius autem scripsi vobis fratres ex parte, tamquam in memoriam vos reducens: propter gratiam, quae data est mihi a Deo,τολμηρότερον δὲ ἔγραψα ὑμῖν, ἀδελφοί, ἀπὸ μέρους, ὡς ἐπαναμιμνήσκων ὑμᾶς, διὰ τὴν χάριν τὴν δοθεῖσάν μοι ὑπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ
That I should be the minister of Christ Jesus among the Gentiles; sanctifying the gospel of God, that the oblation of the Gentiles may be made acceptable and sanctified in the Holy Ghost.ut sim minister Christi Iesu in gentibus: sanctificans Evangelium Dei, ut fiat oblatio gentium accepta, et sanctificata in Spiritu Sancto.εἰς τὸ εἶναί με λειτουργὸν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ εἰς τὰ ἔθνη, ἱερουργοῦντα τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἵνα γένηται ἡ προσφορὰ τῶν ἐθνῶν εὐπρόσδεκτος, ἡγιασμένη ἐν Πνεύματι Ἁγίῳ.
I have therefore glory in Christ Jesus towards God.Habeo igitur gloriam in Christo Iesu ad Deum.ἔχω οὖν καύχησιν ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τὰ πρὸς τὸν Θεόν·
For I dare not to speak of any of those things which Christ worketh not by me, for the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed,Non enim audeo aliquid loqui eorum, quae per me non efficit Christus in obedientiam gentium, verbo et factis:οὐ γὰρ τολμήσω λαλεῖν τι ὧν οὐ κατειργάσατο Χριστὸς δι᾽ ἐμοῦ εἰς ὑπακοὴν ἐθνῶν λόγῳ καὶ ἔργῳ,
By the virtue of signs and wonders, in the power of the Holy Ghost, so that from Jerusalem round about as far as unto Illyricum, I have replenished the gospel of Christ.in virtute signorum, et prodigiorum, in virtute Spiritus Sancti: ita ut ab Ierusalem per circuitum usque ad Illyricum repleverim Evangelium Christi.ἐν δυνάμει σημείων καὶ τεράτων, ἐν δυνάμει Πνεύματος Θεοῦ, ὥστε με ἀπὸ Ἱερουσαλὴμ καὶ κύκλῳ μέχρι τοῦ Ἰλλυρικοῦ πεπληρωκέναι τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Χριστοῦ,
And I have so preached this gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man’s foundation.
But as it is written: They to whom he was not spoken of, shall see, and they that have not heard shall understand.sed sicut scriptum est: Quibus non est annuntiatum de eo, videbunt: et qui non audierunt, intelligent.ἀλλὰ καθὼς γέγραπται, οἷς οὐκ ἀνηγγέλη περὶ αὐτοῦ ὄψονται, καὶ οἳ οὐκ ἀκηκόασι συνήσουσι.
For which cause also I was hindered very much from coming to you, and have been kept away till now.Propter quod et impediebar plurimum venire ad vos, et prohibitus sum usque adhuc.Διὸ καὶ ἐνεκοπτόμην τὰ πολλὰ τοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς·
But now having no more place in these countries, and having a great desire these many years past to come unto you,Nunc vero ulterius locum non habens in his regionibus, cupiditatem autem habens veniendi ad vos ex multis iam praecedentibus annis:νυνὶ δὲ μηκέτι τόπον ἔχων ἐν τοῖς κλίμασι τούτοις, ἐπιποθίαν δὲ ἔχων τοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ πολλῶν ἐτῶν,
When I shall begin to take my journey into Spain, I hope that as I pass, I shall see you, and be brought on my way thither by you, if first, in part, I shall have enjoyed you:cum in Hispaniam proficisci coepero, spero quod praeteriens videam vos, et a vobis deducar illuc, si vobis primum ex parte fruitus fuero.ὡς ἐὰν πορεύωμαι εἰς τὴν Σπανίαν, ἐλεύσομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς· ἐλπίζω γὰρ διαπορευόμενος θεάσασθαι ὑμᾶς καὶ ὑφ᾽ ὑμῶν προπεμφθῆναι ἐκεῖ, ἐὰν ὑμῶν πρῶτον ἀπὸ μέρους ἐμπλησθῶ.
But now I shall go to Jerusalem, to minister unto the saints.Nunc igitur proficiscar in Ierusalem ministrare sanctis.νυνὶ δὲ πορεύομαι εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ διακονῶν τοῖς ἁγίοις.
For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a contribution for the poor of the saints that are in Jerusalem.Probaverunt enim Macedonia et Achaia collationem aliquam facere in pauperes sanctorum, qui sunt in Ierusalem.εὐδόκησαν γὰρ Μακεδονία καὶ Ἀχαΐα κοινωνίαν τινὰ ποιήσασθαι εἰς τοὺς πτωχοὺς τῶν ἁγίων τῶν ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ.
For it hath pleased them; and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, they ought also in carnal things to minister to them.Placuit enim eis: et debitores sunt eorum.
When therefore I shall have accomplished this, and consigned to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain.Hoc igitur cum consummavero, et assignavero eis fructum hunc, per vos proficiscar in Hispaniam.τοῦτο οὖν ἐπιτελέσας, καὶ σφραγισάμενος αὐτοῖς τὸν καρπὸν τοῦτον, ἀπελεύσομαι δι᾽ ὑμῶν εἰς τὴν Σπανίαν.
And I know, that when I come to you, I shall come in the abundance of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.Scio autem quoniam veniens ad vos, in abundantia benedictionis Evangelii Christi veniam.οἶδα δὲ ὅτι ἐρχόμενος πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν πληρώματι εὐλογίας τοῦ εὐαγγελίου τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐλεύσομαι.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the charity of the Holy Ghost, that you help me in your prayers for me to God,Obsecro ergo vos fratres per Dominum nostrum Iesum Christum, et per caritatem Sancti Spiritus, ut adiuvetis me in orationibus vestris pro me ad Deum,Παρακαλῶ δὲ ὑμᾶς, ἀδελφοί, διὰ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ διὰ τῆς ἀγάπης τοῦ Πνεύματος, συναγωνίσασθαί μοι ἐν ταῖς προσευχαῖς ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ πρὸς τὸν Θεόν,
That I may be delivered from the unbelievers that are in Judea, and that the oblation of my service may be acceptable in Jerusalem to the saints.ut liberer ab infidelibus, qui sunt in Iudaea, et obsequii mei oblatio accepta fiat in Ierusalem sanctis,ἵνα ῥυσθῶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἀπειθούντων ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ καὶ ἵνα ἡ διακονία μου ἡ εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ εὐπρόσδεκτος γένηται τοῖς ἁγίοις,
That I may come to you with joy, by the will of God, and may be refreshed with you.ut veniam ad vos in gaudio per voluntatem Dei, et refrigerer vobiscum.ἵνα ἐν χαρᾷ ἔλθω πρὸς ὑμᾶς διὰ θελήματος Θεοῦ καὶ συναναπαύσωμαι ὑμῖν.
Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.Deus autem pacis sit cum omnibus vobis.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
