Hosea 13: Douay-Rheims and Septuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
Douay-RheimsSeptuagint (Sixtine edition, 1587)
1When Ephraim spoke, a horror seized Israel: and he sinned in Baal and died.Κατὰ τὸν λόγον Ἐφραὶμ δικαιώματα ἔλαβεν αὐτὸς ἐν τῷ Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἔθετο αὐτὰ τῇ Βάαλ καὶ ἀπέθανε.
2And now they have sinned more and more: and they have made to themselves a molten thing of their silver as the likeness of idols: the whole is the work of craftsmen: to these that say: Sacrifice men, ye that adore calves.Καὶ νῦν προσέθεντο τοῦ ἁμαρτάνειν, καὶ ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοῖς χώνευμα ἐκ τοῦ ἀργυρίου αὐτῶν, κατʼ εἰκόνα εἰδώλων, ἔργα τεκτόνων συντετελεσμένα αὐτοῖς· αὐτοὶ λέγουσι, θύσατε ἀνθρώπους, μόσχοι γὰρ ἐκλελοίπασι.
3Therefore they shall be as a morning aloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the dust that is driven with a whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.Διὰ τοῦτο ἔσονται ὡς νεφέλη πρωϊνὴ καὶ ὡς δρόσος ὀρθρινὴ πορευομένη, ὡς χνοῦς ἀποφυσώμενος ἀφʼ ἅλωνος, καὶ ὡς ἀτμὶς ἀπὸ δακρύων.
4But I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt: and thou shalt know no God but me, and there is no saviour beside me.Ἐγὼ δὲ Κύριος ὁ Θεός σου ὁ στερεῶν τὸν οὐρανὸν, καὶ κτίζων γῆν, οὗ αἱ χεῖρες ἔκτισαν πᾶσαν τὴν στρατιὰν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ οὐ παρέδειξά σοι αὐτὰ τοῦ πορεύεσθαι ὀπίσω αὐτῶν· καὶ ἐγὼ ἀνήγαγόν σε ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, καὶ θεὸν πλὴν ἐμοῦ οὐ γνώσῃ, καὶ σώζων οὐκ ἔστι πάρεξ ἐμοῦ.
5I knew thee in the desert, in the land of the wilderness.Ἐγὼ ἐποίμαινόν σε ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἐν γῇ ἀοικήτῳ
6According to their pastures they were filled, and were made full: and they lifted up their heart, and have forgotten me.κατὰ τὰς νομὰς αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐνεπλήσθησαν εἰς πλησμονήν, καὶ ὑψώθησαν αἱ καρδίαι αὐτῶν· ἕνεκα τούτου ἐπελάθοντό μου.
7And I will be to them as a lioness, as a leopard in the way of the Assyrians.Καὶ ἔσομαι αὐτοῖς ὡς πανθὴρ, καὶ ὡς πάρδαλις· κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν Ἀσσυρίων
8I will meet them as a bear that is robbed of her whelps, and I will rend the inner parts of their liver: and I will devour them there as a lion, the beast of the field shall tear them.ἀπαντήσομαι αὐτοῖς ὡς ἄρκτος ἡ ἀπορουμένη, καὶ διαῤῥήξω συγκλεισμὸν καρδίας αὐτῶν, καὶ καταφάγονται αὐτοὺς ἐκεῖ σκύμνοι δρυμοῦ, θηρία ἀγροῦ διασπάσει αὐτούς.
9Destruction is thy own, O Israel: thy help is only in me.Τῇ διαφθορᾷ σου Ἰσραήλ τίς βοηθήσει;
10Where is thy king? now especially let him save thee in all thy cities: and thy judges, of whom thou saidst: Give me kings and princes.Ποῦ ὁ βασιλεύς σου οὗτος; καὶ διασωσάτω σε ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσί σου· κρινάτω σε ὃν εἶπας, δός μοι βασιλέα καὶ ἄρχοντα.
11I will give thee a king in my wrath, and will take him away in my indignation.Καὶ ἔδωκά σοι βασιλέα ἐν ὀργῇ μου, καὶ ἔσχον ἐν τῷ θυμῷ μου.
12The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up, his sin is hidden.Συστροφὴν ἀδικίας Ἐφραὶμ, ἐγκεκρυμμένη ἡ ἁμαρτία αὐτοῦ,
13The sorrows of a woman in labour snail come upon him, he is an unwise son: for now he shall not stand in the breach of the children.ὠδῖνες ὡς τικτούσης ἥξουσιν αὐτῷ· οὗτος ὁ υἱός σου ὁ φρόνιμος, διότι οὐ μὴ ὑποστῇ ἐν συντριβῇ τέκνων.
14I will deliver them out of the hand of death. I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy death; O hell, I will be thy bite: comfort is hidden from my eyes.Ἐκ χειρὸς ᾅδου ῥύσομαι, καὶ ἐκ θανάτου λυτρώσομαι αὐτούς· ποῦ ἡ δίκη σου θάνατε; ποῦ τὸ κέντρον σου ᾅδη; παράκλησις κέκρυπται ἀπὸ ὀφθαλμῶν μου.
15Because he shall make a separation between brothers: the Lord will bring a burning wind that shall rise from the desert, and it shall dry up his springs, and shall make his fountain desolate, and he shall carry off the treasure of every desirable vessel.Διότι οὗτος ἀναμέσον ἀδελφῶν διαστελεῖ, ἐπάξει καύσωνα ἄνεμον Κύριος ἐκ τῆς ἐρήμου ἐπʼ αὐτόν, καὶ ἀναξηρανεῖ τὰς φλέβας αὐτοῦ, ἐξερημώσει τὰς πηγὰς αὐτοῦ· αὐτὸς καταξηρανεῖ τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ, καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη τὰ ἐπιθυμητὰ αὐτοῦ.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
