Philemon 1

Douay-Rheims and Vulgata Clementina, verse by verse.

Philemon 1: Douay-Rheims and Vulgata Clementina
Douay-RheimsVulgata Clementina
Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy, a brother: to Philemon, our beloved and fellow labourer;Paulus vinctus Christi Iesu, et Timotheus frater, Philemoni dilecto, et adiutori nostro,
And to Appia, our dearest sister, and to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the church which is in thy house:et Appiae sorori carissimae, et Archippo commilitoni nostro, et ecclesiae, quae in domo tua est.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.Gratia vobis, et pax a Deo Patre nostro, et Domino Iesu Christo.
I give thanks to my God, always making a remembrance of thee in my prayers.Gratias ago Deo meo, semper memoriam tui faciens in orationibus meis,
Hearing of thy charity and faith, which thou hast in the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints:audiens caritatem tuam, et fidem, quam habes in Domino Iesu, et in omnes sanctos:
That the communication of thy faith may be made evident in the acknowledgment of every good work, that is in you in Christ Jesus.ut communicatio fidei tuae evidens fiat in agnitione omnis operis boni, quod est in vobis in Christo Iesu.
For I have had great joy and consolation in thy charity, because the bowels of the saints have been refreshed by thee, brother.Gaudium enim magnum habui, et consolationem in caritate tua: quia viscera sanctorum requieverunt per te, frater.
Wherefore though I have much confidence in Christ Jesus, to command thee that which is to the purpose:Propter quod multam fiduciam habens in Christo Iesu imperandi tibi quod ad rem pertinet:
For charity sake I rather beseech, whereas thou art such a one, as Paul an old man, and now a prisoner also of Jesus Christ.propter caritatem magis obsecro, cum sis talis, ut Paulus senex, nunc autem et vinctus Iesu Christi:
I beseech thee for my son, whom I have begotten in my bands, Onesimus, obsecro te pro meo filio, quem genui in vinculis, Onesimo,
Who hath been heretofore unprofitable to thee, but now is profitable both to me and thee, qui tibi aliquando inutilis fuit, nunc autem et mihi et tibi utilis,
Whom I have sent back to thee. And do thou receive him as my own bowels.quem remisi tibi. Tu autem illum, ut mea viscera, suscipe:
Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered to me in the bands of the gospel:quem ego volueram mecum detinere, ut pro te mihi ministraret in vinculis Evangelii:
But without thy counsel I would do nothing: that thy good deed might not be as it were of necessity, but voluntary.sine consilio autem tuo nihil volui facere, uti ne velut ex necessitate bonum tuum esset, sed voluntarium.
For perhaps he therefore departed for a season from thee, that thou mightest receive him again for ever:Forsitan enim ideo discessit ad horam a te, ut aeternum illum reciperes:
Not now as a servant, but instead of a servant, a most dear brother, especially to me: but how much more to thee both in the flesh and in the Lord?iam non ut servum, sed pro servo carissimum fratrem, maxime mihi: quanto autem magis tibi et in carne, et in Domino?
If therefore thou count me a partner, receive him as myself.Si ergo habes me socium, suscipe illum sicut me:
And if he hath wronged thee in any thing, or is in thy debt, put that to my account.si autem aliquid nocuit tibi, aut debet, hoc mihi imputa.
I Paul have written it with my own hand: I will repay it: not to say to thee, that thou owest me thy own self also.Ego Paulus scripsi mea manu: ego reddam, ut non dicam tibi, quod et teipsum mihi debes:
Yea, brother. May I enjoy thee in the Lord. Refresh my bowels in the Lord.ita, frater. Ego te fruar in Domino: refice viscera mea in Domino.
Trusting in thy obedience, I have written to thee: knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.Confidens in obedientia tua scripsi tibi: sciens quoniam et super id, quod dico, facies.
But withal prepare me also a lodging. For I hope that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.Simul autem et para mihi hospitium: nam spero per orationes vestras donari me vobis.
There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus;Salutat te Epaphras concaptivus meus in Christo Iesu,
Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke my fellow labourers.Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, et Lucas, adiutores mei.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.Gratia Domini nostri Iesu Christi cum spiritu vestro. Amen.

Jesus laments over Jerusalem, which kills the prophets

The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee. And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and…
