And when a long time was passed, after that the Lord had given peace to Israel, all the nations round about being subdued, and Josue being now old, and far advanced in years: | Evoluto autem multo tempore, postquam pacem dederat Dominus Israëli, subiectis in gyro nationibus universis, et Iosue iam longaevo, et persenilis aetatis, | Καὶ ἐγένετο μεθʼ ἡμέρας πλείους μετὰ τὸ καταπαῦσαι Κύριον τὸν Ἰσραὴλ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτοῦ κυκλόθεν, καὶ Ἰησοῦς πρεσβύτερος προβεβηκὼς ταῖς ἡμέραις.
Josue called for all Israel, and for the elders, and for the princes, and for the judges, and for the masters, and said to them: I am old, and far advanced in years: | vocavit Iosue omnem Israëlem, maioresque natu, et principes ac duces, et magistros, dixitque ad eos: Ego senui, et progressioris aetatis sum: | Καὶ συνεκάλεσεν Ἰησοῦς πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραὴλ καὶ τὴν γερουσίαν αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς δικαστὰς αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν, καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτοὺς, ἐγὼ γεγήρακα καὶ προβέβηκα ταῖς ἡμέραις·
And you see all that the Lord your God hath done to all the nations round about, how he himself hath fought for you: | vosque cernitis omnia, quae fecerit Dominus Deus vester cunctis per circuitum nationibus, quomodo pro vobis ipse pugnaverit: | Ὑμεῖς δὲ ἑωράκατε ὅσα ἐποίησε Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν πᾶσι τοῖς ἔθνεσι τούτοις ἀπὸ προσώπου ἡμῶν, ὅτι Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ὑμῶν ὁ ἐκπολεμήσας ὑμῖν.
And now since he hath divided to you by lot all the land, from the east of the Jordan unto the great sea, and many nations yet remain: | et nunc quia vobis sorte divisit omnem terram, ab orientali parte Iordanis usque ad mare magnum, multaeque adhuc supersunt nationes: | Ἴδετε ὅτι ἐπέῤῥιφα ὑμῖν τὰ ἔθνη τὰ καταλελειμμένα ὑμῖν ταῦτα ἐν τοῖς κλήροις εἰς τὰς φυλὰς ὑμῶν, ἀπὸ τοῦ Ἰορδάνου πάντα τὰ ἔθνη, καὶ ἐξωλόθρευσα, καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς θαλάσσης τῆς μεγάλης ὁριεῖ ἐπὶ δυσμὰς ἡλίου.
The Lord your God will destroy them, and take them away from before your face, and you shall possess the land as he hath promised you.
Only take courage, and be careful to observe all things that are written in the book of the law of Moses: and turn not aside from them neither to the right hand nor to the left: | Tantum confortamini, et estote solliciti, ut custodiatis cuncta quae scripta sunt in volumine legis Moysi: et non declinetis ab eis neque ad dexteram neque ad sinistram: | Κατισχύσατε οὖν σφόδρα φυλάσσειν καὶ ποιεῖν πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοῦ νόμου Μωυσῆ, ἵνα μὴ ἐκκλίνητε εἰς δεξιὰ ἢ εὐώνυμα,
Lest after that you are come in among the Gentiles, who will remain among you, you should swear by the name of their gods, and serve them, and adore them: | ne postquam intraveritis ad gentes quae inter vos futurae sunt, iuretis in nomine deorum earum, et serviatis eis, et adoretis illos: | ὅπως μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς τὰ ἔθνη τὰ καταλελειμμένα ταῦτα· καὶ τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν θεῶν αὐτῶν οὐκ ὀνομασθήσεται ἐν ὑμῖν, οὐδὲ μὴ λατρεύσητε, οὐδὲ μὴ προσκυνήσητε αὐτοῖς,
But cleave ye unto the Lord your God: as you have done until this day.
And then the Lord God will take away before your eyes nations that are great and very strong, and no man shall be able to resist you. | Et tunc auferet Dominus Deus in conspectu vestro gentes magnas et robustissimas, et nullus vobis resistere poterit.
One of you shall chase a thousand men of the enemies: because the Lord your God himself will fight for you, as he hath promised. | Unus e vobis persequetur hostium mille viros: quia Dominus Deus vester pro vobis ipse pugnabit, sicut pollicitus est.
This only take care of with all diligence, that you love the Lord your God.
But if you will embrace the errors of these nations that dwell among you, and make marriages with them, and join friendships: | Quod si volueritis gentium harum, quae inter vos habitant, erroribus adhaerere, et cum eis miscere connubia, atque amicitias copulare: | Ἐὰν γὰρ ἀποστραφῆτε καὶ προσθῆσθε τοῖς ὑπολειφθεῖσιν ἔθνεσι τούτοις τοῖς μεθʼ ὑμῶν, καὶ ἐπιγαμίας ποιήσητε πρὸς αὐτοὺς, καὶ συγκαταμιγῆτε αὐτοῖς καὶ αὐτοὶ ὑμῖν,
Know ye for a certainty that the Lord your God will not destroy them before your face, but they shall be a pit and a snare in your way, and a stumblingblock at your side, and stakes in your eyes, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he hath given you.
Behold this day I am going into the way of all the earth, and you shall know with all your mind that of all the words which the Lord promised to perform for you, not one hath failed.
Therefore as he hath fulfilled in deed, what he promised, and all things prosperous have come: so Will he bring upon you all the evils he hath threatened, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he hath given you, | Sicut ergo implevit opere quod promisit, et prospera cuncta venerunt: sic adducet super vos quidquid malorum comminatus est, donec vos auferat atque disperdat de terra hac optima, quam tradidit vobis, | Καὶ ἔσται ὃν τρόπον ἥκει πρὸς ἡμᾶς πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τὰ καλὰ, ἃ ἐλάλησε Κύριος ἐφʼ ὑμᾶς· οὕτως ἐπάξει Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἐφʼ ὑμᾶς πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τὰ πονηρὰ ἕως ἂν ἐξολοθρεύσῃ ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τῆς ἀγαθῆς ταύτης, ἧς ἔδωκε Κύριος ὑμῖν,
When you shall have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which he hath made with you, and shall have served strange gods, and adored them: then shall the indignation of the Lord rise up quickly and speedily against you, and you shall be taken away from this excellent land, which he hath delivered to you.
