Peter 5: Douay-Rheims and Vulgata Clementina
Douay-RheimsVulgata Clementina
The ancients therefore that are among you, I beseech, who am myself also an ancient, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ: as also a partaker of that glory which is to be revealed in time to come:Seniores ergo, qui in vobis sunt, obsecro, consenior et testis Christi passionum: qui et eius, quae in futuro revelanda est, gloriae communicator:
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking care of it, not by constraint, but willingly, according to God: not for filthy lucre’s sake, but voluntarily:pascite qui in vobis est gregem Dei, providentes non coacte, sed spontanee secundum Deum: neque turpis lucri gratia, sed voluntarie:
Neither as lording it over the clergy, but being made a pattern of the flock from the heart.neque ut dominantes in cleris, sed forma facti gregis ex animo.
And when the prince of pastors shall appear, you shall receive a never fading crown of glory.Et cum apparuerit princeps pastorum, percipietis immarcescibilem gloriae coronam.
In like manner, ye young men, be subject to the ancients. And do you all insinuate humility one to another, for God resisteth the proud, but to the humble he giveth grace.Similiter adolescentes subditi estote senioribus. Omnes autem invicem humilitatem insinuate, quia Deus superbis resistit, humilibus autem dat gratiam.
Be you humbled therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in the time of visitation:Humiliamini igitur sub potenti manu Dei, ut vos exaltet in tempore visitationis:
Casting all your care upon him, for he hath care of you.omnem sollicitudinem vestram proiicientes in eum, quoniam ipsi cura est de vobis.
Be sober and watch: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour.Sobrii estote, et vigilate: quia adversarius vester diabolus tamquam leo rugiens circuit, quaerens quem devoret:
Whom resist ye, strong in faith: knowing that the same affliction befalls your brethren who are in the world.cui resistite fortes in fide: scientes eamdem passionem ei quae in mundo est vestrae fraternitati fieri.
But the God of all grace, who hath called us into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little, will himself perfect you, and confirm you, and establish you.Deus autem omnis gratiae, qui vocavit nos in aeternam suam gloriam in Christo Iesu, modicum passos ipse perficiet, confirmabit, solidabitque.
To him be glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen.Ipsi gloria, et imperium in saecula saeculorum. Amen.
By Sylvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I think, I have written briefly: beseeching and testifying that this is the true grace of God, wherein you stand.Per Silvanum fidelem fratrem vobis, ut arbitror, breviter scripsi: obsecrans et contestans, hanc esse veram gratiam Dei, in qua statis.
The church that is in Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you: and so doth my son Mark.Salutat vos ecclesia quae est in Babylone coëlecta, et Marcus filius meus.
Salute one another with a holy kiss. Grace be to all you, who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.Salutate invicem in osculo sancto. Gratia vobis omnibus qui estis in Christo Iesu. Amen.

After praying all night, Jesus chooses the twelve apostles

And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and he passed the whole night in the prayer of God. And when day was come, he called unto him his disciples; and he chose twelve of them (whom…
